9/11 and its Aftermath

Exactly 25 years ago today, the United States suffered from a tragedy that shook both our nation and the whole world in the wake of the 21st century. This terrorist attack, the worst of its kind in human history, was the blowback from supporting radical jihadist groups against the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (1979-1992).

Objectively, 9/11 resulted in the United States invading Afghanistan and Iraq a second time. Millions of more lives were lost in the ensuing conflicts. American Muslims were scapegoated to justify the forever wars in the Middle East and the slow development of a police surveillance state.

The Patriot Act gave legal avenues for data collection and increased surveillance. The Department of Homeland Security, created in 2003, has not provided the promised safety 23 years later. Rather, it has gutted civil liberties and paved the way for the Trump regime’s drive towards fascism.
